Poster: A snowHead
|
Just got back from schladming - conditions wonderful - loads of fresh snow and no sign of rocks etc. It snowed wed/thur, we arrived friday to a clear day. Snowed overnight and through the day on and off on sat, snowed heavily in the day on sun, clear day on monday, with snowmaking on (no idea why!). All pistes in great condition, fagerelm (forstau) in particular was truly stunning, fresh pisted/powder everywhere. The only piste that was getting a bit hard was the black to the top of the FIS run on planai. Off piste still in good condition and some fresh tracks to be made as of Monday when we left - if anyone is heading out in the near future things are looking good!

Great to read your report - we're off on Feb 4th so hope it lasts. We love Fageralm - a bit more difficult to get to but worth it! We usually save it for the last day when I'm sick of reds and just want to spend the day cruising on those lovely blues at the top.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I also got back from Ski Amade. We stayed in Flachau (Hermann Maier town), about 10 miles from Schladming. Perfect conditions. I asked the piste workers about snowmaking when snowing. They want to make as much snow as possible for February when the families arrive here during the school holiday.
I also visited Wagrain and Zauchensee. Great places for a day trip.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Quick question - is Schladming the same place as Schladming Haus - and does anyone know of the URL of the official site for the area. Been looking for about an hour now and have begun to start threatening to pound something in frustration!
Cheers!

peterW, yes. Haus is a much smaller village at the foot of the end of the four connected mountains. By bus, Haus is about 10 minutes from Schladming.
I don't know whether this is the official site or not , but I use http://en.skiamade.com/ the area that you are interested is the dachstein tauern area.
I have been to Haus twice with Oak Hall and would gladly answer any questions that you may have (if I can).

I was looking for the official tourist board site, but will try these and see where they get me. Thanks for the info.

Offcial tourist board site for what/where? The first one I gave is the official site for schladming tourism office as far as I know, and think the others are all offcial sites for the various bits? I have a few others on my favourites but those seemed most likely to be useful.. aj xx
