Judging by the video, that's cut through the level snowfall in the area, not the avalanche debris.

Sad news. The area seems to be in the middle of Italy, about as far down as Rome. I wasn't aware they had any ski resorts that far south? Don't think any UK operators go there do they? Maybe its just a small resort for locals?

@SlipnSlide, a dozen or more ski resorts in the Apennines I believe. One of them is quite large with more than 100km of pistes.

New report, 6 have been found alive in the hotel after 2 days. Four have been confirmed dead, and up to 20 are still missing.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Just reading the BBC article:
Quote: |
The force of the snow partially brought down the roof and, according to some reports, shifted the building 10m (11 yards) off its foundations. |
There is a slider of a before and after shot from the same location and it supports the above!
Scary Stuff

That area of central Italy holds the world record for 1day snowfall.
There are northern-hemisphere ski resorts as far south as Sicily, Cyprus, Israel, Lebanon and Morocco.

You know it makes sense.

Pretty grim. Let's hope there are more alive inside yet.

Pretty cold too, for any survivors still trapped in there.

7 days is around the longest anyone has survived under an avalanche with an air pocket

If you are in the hotel cellar where they keep the parma and chianti... well almost indefinitely.

Wonderful news of survivors being brought out. Heroic work by those rescuers. An antidote to all the Trump ghastliness.

The avalanche seems to have dropped off the news, the last count was 10 saved but surely there must be more to news than trump, trump, trump...
Text a friend who lives 45 km north of the hotel & luckily they are back in the uk for a while but they are not looking forward to returning, as their village has been effected & they are hoping a neighbour will pop in & check for them, when he has chance.
Just amazed that it shifted the hotel 10m off it;s foundations, just shows how powerful they can be.

Looks right now like 5-25 dead and 11 survivors pulled from the white rubble.
Still digging for trapped persons today.
