Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Gore-tex jacket and lack of wrist gators?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I appreciate that this isn't particularly important and doesn't apply universally but having been casting my eye around for a new jacket and thinking gore-tex would be good I notice that the majority of them don't seem to come with wrist gators. Anyone know why this is?

Must admit I quite like my wrist gators for generally keeping my wrists warm and free from snow when I stack it (after another failed landing) in the powdery stuff.

My Millet Mountain Curve Stretch GTX Gore-Tex jacket has Lycra cuffs. I'm not saying I /ever/ stack it, but if I did y'know, I wouldn't have wet wrists or nothing.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@felstead, My Norrona Lofoten jackets have excellent wrist gaters, with thumb holes, and they are designed in such a way that my thumbs never miss.

Yes it is, and it's an absolute PITA (right up there with the fact that it's virtually impossible to buy a laptop with a matte screen any more)

No idea why it is the way it is, though. I suspect that - like with so many products - none of the people who design them, manufacture them, market them or sell them have actually ever used them Mad

My cheapo Quiksilver one from TK Maxx bought about 18 months ago has them. It's something like this but in mustard and blue.

Honestly I'm a bit surprised that ANY hard shell jackets come with wrist gaiters. Obviously they are nice when its cold but when you are working hard (uphill) it is really useful to be able to vent through the wrists (undo the velcro tabs) and wrist gaiters limit the efficacy of that.

BTW I do like wearing base layers with thumb holes under shells - then you have the option of giving yourself the wrist cover when conditions warrant it

Felstead Have you tried looking at Sweet Protection? My lovely red Goretex Sweet Protection Salvation jacket I bought cheap from Sport Pursuit has them, and I think the men's version has them. My husband's Kilpi skiing shell, also bought from sport pursuit, has them, and is lined with a short pile fleece around the neck.

My Oakley Goretex jacket has them. That's just a hard shell. I thought all jackets at Goretex grade would have them.

So there's likely the answer to the OP: you need ske/ snowboard specific jackets if you want powder cuffs. All the Burton AK stuff has them at least.

Agree with Philwig. Most ski specific hard shells have them. My Berghaus 3layer goretex pro jacket made out of the same stuff as my Sweet Protection one, doesn't.
www.sportpursuit.com

Look under the 'Ski' section, filter by jackets, or search 'goretex' etc
