Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Meribel - buying boots and having them fitted

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Where? I'll be looking at buying a pair and preferably having them fitted in the next couple of weeks. Know Freeride had a good reputation from last year but also heard that a new store is opening in Les Allues.

Where would people recommend?

Buy them here. Try them here. Amend the fit here. Give them back here should they be unsuitable.

The only time I have had joy with an in resort boot service was when I had the good luck of having Jamie Neill attend to my fitting problems over a month in Val D'Isere many years ago.

Most shops are too busy and packed out to offer a personal service.

Astraeus,

I have not seen any new shops in Les Allues but have heard the owners of Ski Higher have divided the company somehow. We have used them for about 10 years without any problem. If Bruno is in the La Tania Ski Higher shop he is very helpful with a lot of experience.
Freeride have also enjoyed a good reputation in the past but it was sold to a french company last year so the service may have changed.
I would think either shop should be able to offer good advice in English and help you get what you are after. If you want to avoid a busy shop don't go in on the weekend, the rest of the week the staff should have enough time to offer a more personal service.

Cheers. I'm living in Meribel for the next 6 months so don't have the opportunity to get anything from the UK! Will ask locally to see if the recommendations for Ski Higher are seconded/thirded.

Astraeus, Not sure about Freeride anymore - I went in today and all the staff have changed. They didn't fill me with confidence Sad

Hi

You could try Olympic Ski next to the Sandwich bars in Mottaret.

They let you try out any boot before purchase, are keen on price and have been there a long time and depending who is there, they can give good advice.

Have used them twice in the past.

Also, anyone heard good things about Snow Boutique in Meribel? The Les Allues base is not a store, rather the man who left Freeride to go solo. Anyone know any more about him?

I would have recommended Freeride but I did not know they have changed hands (or have they changed feet - I'll get my coat.).

Mrs Trenmold got her boots in Olympic Ski in Mottaret and they were OK although not the same kind of expertise or personal attention as the old Freeride. I think all the ski shops in the main part of Mottaret (ie the shopping centre around the Sherpa supermarket) are owned by the same people as the chap from Olympic nipped out over the road to another shop to find some boots of the correct size.

Patch, not sure which of the Freeride guys it is - are they all pretty reliable? Hoping to catch them very early in the season before the Christmas rush for maximum attention and service.

Will ask about town for who the Les Allues guy is...cheers for the help! Will it be a similar service to that of Solutions4Feet?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

If you can make it over to courchevel 1850 I can definitely recommend Jacques at coutette sports (www.couttetsports.com). Ask for him when you get to the shop.

have posted a previous link on here for someone else enquiring about boots in courchevel, if you do a search on the above you will find it.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Don't expect too much of Rob's time or attention unless you're a fur wearing 'high roller'. rolling eyes

I don't think that any of the guys were specialist bootfitters, and would certainly not be as qualified as CEM. The Freeride bootfitter last season was a young lady, forget her name, but I don't think she is there any longer either

I need new boots this year, but will make the trek to Chamonix for them

Yep, the guy was an arrogant pig, when I went into his shop a couple of seasons ago. On the totally opposite end of the customer service spectrum, Xavier in the ski shop opposite the Ski Lodge Pub in La Tania was extremely helpful and a genuinely nice chap.

La Tania and 1850 are both easily accessible for me so if there are any more recommendations for them, will happily make the trek. Does anyone out here have the skills/precision of CEM?

What’s the current opinion of the guys in Courchevel out the back of the New Gen offices?

They sorted me out a few seasons ago really well when I was having issues.

You could also look at https://www.armandopodo.fr over in Menuires. I’ve has good experiences with him over the years. Need to book an appointment. His shop is a bit tucked away but you can ski to it. Not cheap, but good if you have funny feet.

@ansta1, I needed a tweak to my boots about a year ago and the guys at the bootlab took one look at the inners and knew exactly who had fitted them. Lovely guys and would recommend them

Hope Bootlab is still good. My boots are getting one more chance this trip (they should have been dumped ages ago) and if still no good they’re being chucked in the bin and I’ll be giving boot lab a visit for new boots. Last trip hire boots were more comfortable than mine which says it all really Sad

I used bootlab a couple of time last season and I'd heartily recommend them. Really good prices for seasonairs and the sandwich shop next door is amazing !!

Another vote for bootlab. They did some fairly complex work on my wife's boots that has held up well. Highly recommended.

Am I the only one who mentally swapped "boots" for "boobs"
