Poster: A snowHead

I've only been on one boarding trip but I'm fed up of using completely different boards at the dry & indoor slopes in the UK so I'm thinking of getting a board.
I've spotted a relatively cheap Quechua board which may be perfect as a starter. Is it good? Will it last?

How much is the Quechua board?
My opinion is that you would probably get a much better board buying a 2nd hand one off eBay that has been looked after by its former owner.
I upgraded my board this season after having my old one since 2010. It's perfectly good still and serviceable, but I just fancied a new one. The point being, my board gets a week or 2 use per season, I'm sure there are lots of similar condition boards on eBay - especially at this point in the season.
Just my 2cents - hope that helps.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I'd mirror what @giddyman says... An unabused ebay board from a manufacturer of good repute worked well for me as a first ride, and even though I've recently bought a new (and very different) board, the first one is still very usable and has its place.

I bought Quecha carving skis about six years ago.. Like em, easy to turn and carve with. However I noticed my fellow skiers on hired skis, glide further than me on flat areas, which tells me the ski base is inferior

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

It'll be fine. I checked some boards out last time I was in Decaff and they looked fine particularly at the price unless you're a brand snob.

Could be better wax, better wax job, better technique, different weight of people... I wouldn't say it is any kind of proof that the base is inferior (although it certainly could be). You can always check the specs, sintered is generally better than extruded and given a numerical rating.

Quechua is Decathlon's own brand for hiking gear. For as long as I can remember the winter sports brand is Wed'ze, so that would suggest that this equipment predates that brand.

I've got a feeling that it isn't that many years. Wedze just used to be the name on the silly short skis and Quechua was used for the more serious kit.
Anyway I think the point remains valid - the OP clearly seems to be talking about a used board that cost pribably no more than £200ish new so should evaluate price accordingly.

Everything i've had own brand from decathalon has been pretty good, but as @giddyman, says......there are some great used boards around, check out ebay or facebook marketplace (seems cheaper although less protection as a buyer), yes they may be a few years old but most boards don't get any rough treatment......i've seen Burton Customs going for under £50!!!
