Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Le Clusaz or Brides les Baines

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,
I have been offered le Clusaz and Brides les Baines as options for a short early January break for me and my two boys.
Any thoughts on these resorts. Brides in particular seems very cheap compared to other options.
Cheers

Brides-les-Bains is cheap because it is in the valley, and needs a 30 minute gondola ride to/from Meribel centre, with a 5 minute walk to the main lifts. As a result it perhaps has more of a "town" than a "ski-resort" feel. Some people are quite happy with this; others find it a pain: e.g. it doesn't really work if you want to return to your accommodation during the day.

The gondola up opens at around 08:30, so gets you to Meribel centre for main lift opening. In January the last gondola back down will be at about 5:00, so you can't go out in Meribel itself in the evening, and missing it means an expensive taxi ride back down. Eating out options in Brides are more limited.

La Clusaz is a ski resort. Brides-les-Bains isn't.

Brides les Bains is a spa (hence the "les Bains" bit).

We've been to La Clusaz for a long weekend in March for the last 2 years and are going again this season.

So its a +1 from me.

Good little ski area that although has a 'smallish' km of piste has different areas and you can get a sense of travelling about.

Nice little village/town.

This.

LC is very French.

Only caution -- LC slopes are low. However, snow should be fine in January.
