Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Pat was ahead of his time in a lot of ways, even though the early build quality wasn't great. When I first skied the 186 Lhasa in 2009, I was amazed by just how fast you could ski in powder or how few turns were really necessary in favourable conditions (I was never any real good). Pretty much no one makes skis like it now. I guess the closest fit to the 191 fat is the R118, which is itself a pretty niche piece of kit. I would have been in for this had I not bought a pair of carbon 191s over the summer.

The Whitedot Ranger/R.108 is like a slightly narrower 186 Llasa Pow but I always thought the Llasa was a better skis in 191 & 196. I sold quite a few PM Gears but the $/£ rate plus shipping & VAT killed it. I never skied the 191FAT as it, along with the Kusala Pow, came out after I stopped bring them in. Dealing with Pat was sometimes frustrating but always fun and he was definately ahead of his time re shapes and carbon lay-up's etc, although the other niche makers have now caught up. IIRC Pat developed a severe reaction to glass fibre/carbon which put paid to his ski building.
