Poster: A snowHead

Hi Fellow Snowheads, somebody just asked me a question about Soll.
What would the conditions be like from St Patricks day 2019?
I said "superb!"
But I've not been down that way in March for many years and although I've Skied Kitz till mid April ... I always noticed the sunny side of the Brixental to be a bit iffy.
It should be fine though till end of March, should it not?
Barring all the usual global warming stuff and we could always have a freak winter ... but should be safe?

Ski welt has more guns and ponds than almost anywhere else in the world so I wouldn't worry too much. Plus @ Swisstim's kids might be gigging.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Actually, the SkiWelt sometimes closes for the season in mid March (though 31st March in 2019).
Might that be because it can be dodgy at that time of year?

We were in Westendorf 17th March this year, and went over the skiwelt side. The runs down in the soll/ellmau directions were great, lovely spring snow, not particularly melty even at the bottom. The only dodgy bit we saw was down to Brixen.
Having said that, it piddled snow for much of the beginning of that week so perhaps we were very lucky!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks guys, I'll pass on your remarks to my mate.
I would imagine it world still be brill on the Soll Side, but you may have to take the lift down if you ever wanted to go to Brixen.

They'll probably keep it open, but our afternoon experience was of an icy chaos - skiable but not very pleasant. As mentioned above, the snowmaking is incredible.

I have skied Skiwelt lots though rarely in March, it is at its best in a snowy January. The red piste down to Brixen is rarely in a good state, even when everywhere else has good snow that run seems to be a mixture of ice and piles of soft snow, a run to be got out of the way as quickly as possible. The pistes on the north facing sides (Söll, Scheffau and the run down to Brixen on the other side of the valley) are generally in a much better state. If I were booking a holiday for mid March Söll would not be on the list at all. If going to SkiWelt not sure I would choose Söll in any case, Scheffau and Ellmau seem like nicer villages, Brixen is better placed for the link to Kitzbühel (despite the rubbish run on the south facing side) though Söll does have an excellent toboggan run.

@munich_irish
You are very lucky:
a) to be Irish
b) to be in Munchen, so that you are within easy striking distance of the choice fabulous ski venues for great weekends.
I'm just a tweezey bit jealous.

Is Skiwelt actually connected to Kitz or do you have to take the bus?

@DrLawn, Perhaps not as many weekends as I would like
@südtirolistdeutsch, There is a shuttle bus which takes around 5 minutes between KiWest and Pengelstein

Soll is way too low for end-March skiing.
Especially in the global melting era.
Go somewhere higher and colder, such as Lech, Obergurgl or Ischgl.
