Poster: A snowHead
|
Planning ahead for 2020.
Looking to go to Saalbach....new resort for our group.
Likely to be 5 nights starting on a Sunday or Monday in early Feb.
4 rooms, 8 people. Prefer a tidy B&B/Pension close to centre/lifts
Anyone point me in the right direction ? Appreciate that hotels may not want to take bookings at this stage for incomplete weeks so just trying to get a feel for what's possible.
Many thanks

@Blastfromthepast, early Feb = semester holidays in Austria, plus various German and Dutch holidays. Accommodation providers will have less trouble selling full weeks, you may struggle.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Aside of @queenie pretty please’s point on part week and height of season, also to add changeover day is generally Saturday in Saalbach. So arriving Saturday would at least give a bit more of fighting chance, albeit in reality I would think you will end up paying for a week as they will be able to fill it.
Worth looking at villages outside centre of Saalbach, such as Vorderglemm, where not there is still lift access as per your criteria
If 5 days is all you can do, then booking for 7 days( and only using 5 )in an outlying village probably similar cost as 5 days central Saalbach.

Agree ^^^ any “mainstream” accommodation will be full weeks Sat to Sat only as it’s bang peak time, particularly as it’s 4 rooms, not just the one. No pension owner will want it half empty for 2 days.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Why not think about renting an apartment or two adjacent ones. Yes you will have to pay for full weeks but that should not be too much of a money issue and plenty of flexibility. Apartments in Austria tend to be roomy and well equipped, old style French shoe boxes are rare.

Ive stayed here often, its a lovely, cosy typical Austrian B&B complete with slightly bonkers decoration. Tony and Mary are great hosts. Admittedly I stay there mostly in summer for DH mtbing but ive always been able to book wierd stays, Wed - Sun or something like that...

@Blastfromthepast, either. Austrian and German semester holidays tend to be the first three weeks in February. Dutch holidays tend to be the middle two weeks of February.
But what you may find is that you need to book late as accommodation providers will hold out for week long bookings until nearer the time.

Try here, we stayed there a couple of years back. Fairly basic but not far from town centre great value and reasonable rooms, seem to recall there was a chalet adjacent which looked good too?

A group of 10 of us stayed at this place in early March a couple of years ago.
It was very comfy, not too pricey and 5 minutes walk from the lifts.
