Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski jackets - leather shoulders??

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Last year I got carried away with myself in the summer sales and bought a really lovely Killy jacket, RRP £550, for half price Very Happy

It's in the AWT range and is an Anniversary Limited Edition. BUT, it has leather shoulders Sad - I thought I could get over this but every time I put it on I feel like a biker....for what reason would they put leather on the shoulders? I still haven't worn it yet skiing and will probably put it on Ebay to try & sell it Sad . Any views as to what purpose the leather serves?

Cathy Coins, well I suppose it would help stop the ski edges cutting through your jacket if you rest them on your shoulders ?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Well, I did think that - but then the ski edges wouldn't be all that great for the leather would it? And I've never seen any other jackets with leather shoulders. And part of the outer collar is leather as well.

Clearly a French design - they had to get bits of dead animal in there somehow Skullie

Cathy Coins, please consult your fellow snowHeads before making impulse purchases.

My first memory of leather shoulders in skiing goes back to US-made Powderhorn jackets in the late 1970s which had a kind of western look. My colleague at the then Alpine Sports in central London - Paul Goldstein who now owns Killy - maybe unearthed that concept from his memory to design your unwanted jacket.

I suggest you send him a nice letter at Scrubbs Lane, explaining your love of his products but regrets at this particular purchase, and request a swap. If he's in a generous mood (he's extremely rich) he might warm to your proposal.

I'm assuming the jacket is unused.

Ah, it's all getting a bit clearer now - what I actually have is a retro chic jacket, much sought after!! Wink (there's only another 269 on them on the slopes - wonder why?)

And I can see I obviously have U to blame for my temporary lapse in fashion sense as he hadn't set up snowHeads then for me to obtain wise words to bring me back down to earth - U, where are you?? snowHead

Great story David Very Happy , not too convinced however of how Mr Killy is going to view my phobia of leather shoulders - excuse my ignorance, but do they have offices at Scrubbs Lane?

And of course the jacket is unused - even during the awful weather in La Plagne last Jan when I could really have done with wearing it - it didn't make an appearance Sad

My OH bought her Killy jacket and trousers in Austria in January. The shop had a number ofjackets with varying amounts of leather on them, but I'm pleased to say that Angie showed restraint and bought a jacket minus the leather. It may be a teutonic thing!!?? The jackets are seriously good technically, and at least it's not a day-glo all-in-one!!

Cathy Coins, indeed. Unless they've moved, Killy and Nevica are still headquartered at Impex House, Scrubbs Lane in Harlesden, London. Not one of the most scenic areas of the capital, but at the other end of Scrubbs Lane to Wormwood Scrubbs and its prison, so you should be reasonably safe.

You could try wandering into the building and requesting an audience with Paul Goldstein. He's got a lively sense of humour, so get the pitch right.

David, I remember those Powderhorn jackets, thought they looked great, always wanted one. Just had to make do with Degre 7 until SOS came along.

David, me? Wander into Killy's headquarters dragging my leather jacket behind and ask to see Mr Top Man??? I don't think I have balls (can I say that??) big enough for that!!! Shocked Would be bad enough to wite to him never mind demand an audience (yes, I am easily impressed/awed Very Happy ). I think you've got me mixed up with some other fashion freak Very Happy
