"Europe's biggest mushroom" - a Honey Mushroom fungus the size of 35 football pitches - has been discovered near the town of Ofenpass in eastern Switzerland, which is about 30 miles from Davos and not far from the Stelvio Pass by the Italian border.
The best news is that it's edible, so if you're planning mushroom soup for a large group of friends in your Davos chalet this winter, you know where to go.

David Goldsmith, I just told one of my colleagues, and had to stop him getting a flight with the bad news that there was nothing magic about it!

Wear The Fox Hat, if there's nothing magic about an 86-acre mushroom then I'm obviously wasting my time. Your colleague Fungus should make that trip and congratulate the Swiss on another thing that's going to make them famous.

People say that Switzerland is a small country with not mushroom. Never again will they be able to say that.

It really annoys me when things are measures in football bitches or swiming pools (is that a 25m pool, an olympic pool or paddeling pool) meters, kilometers, miles acres etc are quite acceptable.
I find it's as reliable as measuring something in coats or puddles.

"Football bitches"? I don't think we should go down that road.
The number of acres was specified (86) - is that not an accurate enough figure? - and this was presumably converted into standard-size football pitches, though I must confess I don't know the conversion rate.
I agree that the size of mushrooms should be defined with scientific accuracy.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

86 acres x 4840 sq yds = 416,240 sq yds
35 pitches x 8625 sq yds (using average pitch dimensions) = 301,875 sq yds
Close enough in this case 'cos footie fields can vary by surprising amounts. Cue for thread diversion about smallest pitch, etc......
Isn't it a bitch not being able to edit in this section to clean up boo boos.

According to IFAB regulations the length of the football field (or "pitch") for international matches should be in the range (100-110 metres) and the width should be in the range 64-75 metres. (For other matches the constraints are looser: 90-120 metres length by 45-90 metres width.) The area is under a hectare.
The report states that there were 35 football pitches and it was also 35 hectares in size then the official conversion rate used by the reporter must have been 1 Hectare:1 Football pitch
Try selling something on ebay with non standard sizes.
For Sale: Gold chain
length: about the length of a pice of string
Width: 5 baby wipes thick
Quality: 43 sprouts
Don't imagine there will be any takers

You know it makes sense.

What sort of sprouts?
And are the baby wipes used or not?

kuwait_ian. Admin has given me the power and privilege to turn bitches into pitches but I'm not going to because Brian Barrett has written the funniest typo in the history of snowHeads and deserves a prize for it.
Maybe a ticket for the first snowHeads -v- SCGB football match.

No offence taken, for sure. This is now the 'front page' of the site, so I'm sure admin would agree that any criticism or comment on its content or control should be voiced.

Sorry for stealing nbt's (Notoriously Bad Typist) crown.
First thing I've won for years.
I feverishly tried to edit the message, but due to details listed above, I was stuck with it.
Sending me to a football match would be a punishment rather than a prize though. A snowHeads hat and a couple of stickers would be nice though
