Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

My wife does not ski. Would it be possible for her to take some combination of gondolas/trains to get to Chez Vrony to meet me for lunch.

thanks in advance

Yes. Findeln is very close to the base of a 2 person chair below Sunnegga. It would be a walk down from Sunnegga to Findeln. I have never done it, but I have to believe that people who live in Findeln get back and forth without too much trouble.

Lots of hiking trails around there, even in winter.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yes, one of our party walked there in January. Take the underground train thingy up to Sunnegga and from there it is a walk down to Findeln. As JC says, after that, it is a walk down to the two man chair lift and back up to Sunnegga. I've seen quite a few people do this.

Another option is to take the cable up from Klein Matterhorn to Furi and onto Trockener Steg. There's an biggish Italian here restaurant (if I remember correctly). Downstairs is self service but upstairs they do decent pizzas, pastas etc.

mrpow, yes easily! From the top of the Sunnega Express the walking route down to the restaurants at Findeln is well signposted. The track is really well maintained with steps cut into the snow. You can obtain a very clear walking map of the mountain from the tourist office.

Also I am pretty sure that she wouldn't have to walk back up as I think I have, in the past, seen pedestrians on the old 2 man chair back up from Findeln to Sunnega.

Zermatt is great for your wife to get around to meet you for lunch. Try the other (better IMO!) restaurants at Findeln too, Franz and Heidis and Adler.

Also the Fluhalp restaurant is fantastic as a great group Dave and the Murphy Brothers play live music at lunchtime, food is excellent too. Your wife needs to take the Sunnega Express then the gondola to Blauherd and then the walking path up to Fluhalp.

It would also be easy for your wife to meet you for lunch at restaurants on the Matterhorn side too. If she takes the Matterhorn Express gondola to Furi, she can meet you at one of the restaurants there...I would recommend Simi which is just below the Furi lift station. If she walks down further from Furi, or alternatively walks up from the bottom of the Matterhorn Express she can meet you Zum See or Blatten restaurants which are both fantastic and easy to get to.

There are loads more possibilities too (whole of Gornergrat too)...with planning I think she could meet you at a different restaurant every day!

She can even meet you for apres ski on the hill at the Hennu Stall, just below Blatten or the Olympia, just a short walk up from the road above the Sunnega Express base station.

If you need any more specific info, numbers for restaurants (its advisable to book) just shout. Wish I was going back, have a wonderful time!

Restaurant is excellent and on occasions requires advance booking for lunch
Word of slight caution with walking back to the village which is a lovely walk however depending on previous weather conditions the path can become very icy particularly under fresh snow. Good spikes under your boots would help. Know from experience having left my boot spikes in the hotel and falling 12. Times and serious bruising as a result
