Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ok so im going on a long weekend to Morzine on Fri 29th April, its just a last minute thing! & i suspect that the snow will be slushy and even the high stuff will be iffy...if there at all!?? Puzzled

Does anyone know what its like around Avoriaz/Morzine Le Gets at that time of year? As i have never ventured out so late in the season.

& I can ski or board not sure which to do, ile probably play it by ear on this one??!!! any suggestions?

You are leaving it very late for the PDS. I believe that's Avoriaz last weekend so you might find nothing's open on the Monday. Higher runs; chavannette, fornet, arare should be open. Late season weather can do all sorts of things - it's forecast to snow to 1000m this weekend (meteo.chamonix.com) - so you might get lucky. It'll be nice and quiet though!

cazaroo, Like David Murdoch, I am also a big fan of the PdS and left yesterday afternoon. His facts are absolutely accurate. Morzine and Les Gets are almost 'closed' , not just the pistes (lack of pisteurs and lift attendants) but also the villages themselves. As of yesterday I think there is only one bar and one hotel open in Les Gets for example. Consequently it really doesn't matter if there is snow or not .... you won't be able to ski/board. The villages are gearing up for VTT et al. Les Gets and Morzine officially close on the 24th but I would be amazed if they are open next Monday.

Hate to be a damp squid but if you really want to ski, go somewhere else ....

Hmm, Avoriaz received un unexpected 50-60cm of heavy snow over the weekend. Not very nice to ski in at all I'm afraid but an interesting challenge. The locals weren't too pleased as they were talking of closing completely a week early - i.e. next Sunday - but it looks like they'll need to stay open!!! Snow fell heavily down to 400m and lightly down as far as Geneva, but it wasn't cold enough to make for good powder. It would have been a huge advantage had it done this in January.

Also made for some entertaining driving as locals and rental coys had reverted to summer tyres!

Morzine very quiet - which was lovely - but definitely end of season.

Avoriaz will probably be open, but maybe you will be the only ones on the slopes!
