Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chamonix weather forecast has rain/snow limit dropping down to 2000m and then to 1500m/1400m in next two days. Unfortunately it also forecasts milder weather to follow but very early days yet of course.

That's why I put the question mark, ise, since I don't have the benefit of being out in the Alps. You lucky sod! Even so, 1400m is an encouraging drop in the rain/snow altitude if the forecast proves correct.

Not really lucky, it was freezing, 10m visibility, turned to rain at 1600m and we got cold and wet and the lift office decided I was day early to get my season pass.

well you don't expect that in late September - mostly it would be T shirts - I did a week's walking in the Alps last October and only put a light fleece on once or twice, on exposed spots. You can't carry the entire panoply of cold weather gear with you all the time! But my week's walking in mid October this year looks likely to be a bit chillier

I was in the Swiss Alps in early September. When the sun went in, it got chilly, quickly. I took a HellyTech Shell, and I wore it Laughing If I am in an alpine area in winter, I use winter kit obviously.

Lot of rain last 24 hours in the Savoie, snowline crept down overnight, so a fair sprinkling of the white stuff visible from around 1700m at Arc 1600 early on - when the clouds lift ...

PG, nothing wrong with waiting for good weather, especially at the start of the season when there's seven months of skiing ahead of you!

How's the arm?
