Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Zermatt off piste and heli

Off to zermatt in march , and want to take my son on a heli trip for his birthday , any snow heads got experience of the degree of difficulty of the classic heli ski itinerys on monta rosa , he's a high standard boarder both on and off piste , but has a bit of an issue with height and exposure , don't want to spoil what should be the trip of a lifetime by pushing him too far

Done the Alphubeljoch run with the alpin centre in town and it was pretty easy going, i dont think they do anything that dramatic it's more geared towards the easy side for the "experience" there was no exposure for us unfortunately.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Or you can do Heli from the Italian side and go up past the Matterhorn to behind it and ski down a fairly gentle glacier to get back to Zermatt.

The Matterhorn trip we did (a few years ago now) goes from beside Cervinia and the spectacular thing is the close fly-past of the Matterhorn.

i would like to see myself as a copy of a mix between chris davenport and fabien barel and there is definatley only one of me Cool

seriously though the carbon reference is for my liking of a certain material used in the manufacture of skis and mtb frames Toofy Grin

cheers for the links , we are actually staying in one of mountain exposures places , and it was off thier web site that i found the reference to the need for a good head for heights and a certain amount of exposure on the monta rosa heli trip snowHead

I've done a couple of heli ski 'weeks' in Zermatt and don't like heights or exposure too much. Is your son ok in a helicopter from a height aspect? If he is then in my experience should be ok.

The only couple of things I found challenging was at one point we had to be very careful skiing not far from an open crevasse, this caused a couple in the group I was in to be very nervy. My only other challenge was a run which ended up in the forest above Tasch which requires quite a few tight turns and in one case turning by hanging onto a tree route. Ignoring those bits the runs were excellent and a good guide will take you to the best snow, my favourite was a run down into Saas Fee which was a lovely gentle pitch but very light snow and no one else around.

My advice would be to chat with your guide before the decision is made as to where you are going as they will be able to judge which routes would be best. Try not to be too restrictive on which day(s) as of course the weather can close in and no heli skiing for a few days. I rated Air Zermatt as an excellent heli company.

The views are stupendous in the area so I hope you have a fantastic time.

SnowMac, no problem with the heli , only worry would be big exposed traverse or something similar to the entrance to the vallee Blanche Shocked

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I've only done one exposed steep traverse and it was because the guide changed his mind whilst looking at the slope we were about to ski and decided it was a avalanche risk so changed angles so I'd be surprised if you had that challenge especially with a boarder.

I've done the VB from both Italian and French side and can promise I've never done anything in Zermatt similar to that pesky ridge, come to think of it no where else at all!

You'll have a great time, perfect place to do some heli lifts.

The Monte Rosa route is pretty mellow, certainly no exposure to worry about.
