Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Essential things to pack for Skiing

@Montana, I never cease to be amazed by the amount of painkillers people seem to neck if all the 'what to pack' advice is anything to go by. Mine go out of date before I use them

On my one heliskiing holiday the guides referred to ibuprofen as "ski-mores". Given that the business profitability and their bonuses/profit shares relied on clients buying more vertical metres they were pretty enthusiastic advocates of necking anti-inflammatories Very Happy

Besides the obvious stuff, I try to pack light when it comes to clothing but here's a few extra bits I bring:

- Matches (lets just say it helps to light a match in the bathroom from time to time....)
- First Aid, plasters + blister patches
- ZERO hydration tabs (pop them into the bladder)
- Porridge Oats
- Milk Thistle (tabs to help the liver)
- Arnica
- Wintergreen (similar to tigerbalm but I find it better and more natural)
- Diphene spray
- Lip Balm
- Board shorts (for an evening in the pool)
- Mini Haribo bags
- Playing Cards
- Hip Flask

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yeah, I learned about this on one heli trip where a bunch of US surgeons were passing around a bowl of what looked to me like peppermints. I assumed they were some sort of designer drug... but they turned out to be prophylactic Ibuprofen. Note that if you fly unlimited vertical, then this works the opposite way for the company. I'm always happier when the company has no specific interest in how much I ride.

So yeah, when I was 17 I went on a ski trip and my legs ached for the first three days. Now I'm somewhat older and they don't ache any more. I'm happy to live at a time when technology helps fight the effects of ageing. Sadly Ibuprofen is even better than a good massage lady, because the effect lasts all day.

I recently added 'whistle' to my kit list.
