Hello folks. Mr Snowy has just booked flights to/from Munich Feb/March and a hire car. (We thought about driving but the costs don't stack up and we don't currently have any winter tyres but that's another discussion!)
The intention is to ski some of the smaller resorts in Austria - 2-3 days each - over 2 weeks - resorts that we would not normally consider for a full week - maybe taking a rest day or half day, sighseeing or a spa trip in between resorts.
We have been to the following: Soll/Ski Welt, Kirchberg/Kitzbuhel, Silvretta Nova, Ski Amade, Obergurgl/Solden and will have skied all their connected areas. I cut my snow teeth in Brand/Zell am Ziller and he has skied in Niederau, Schladming and Zell am Zee/Kaprun. We love all of Austria and like to try new places as well as the old stamping grounds. (Also skied in Scotland and Les Arcs/La Plagne/Val D and Japan).
We prefer piste (knees getting too old for off piste unless it's fresh powder!) but do pack in the miles every day. It's a bit of a mission to ski every run and use every lift...
So--your favourite, lesser known gemutlich resorts and accommodation please! We could just look online but a personal recommendation is so much better! Thanks!

Gerlos/Hochkrimml/Königsleiten.
Not so many Brits go there (don't think the big tour companies offer it) but it's popular with Germans and Dutch especially.
Never seen it as busy as last year when, I'm guessing, the folks from down the lower resorts - Zell and Mayrhofen etc, headed up on the buses chasing snow.
Still, it's one of my favourite areas, and would be perfect for a couple of days.

You might want to look at the Vorarlberg / Bregenzerwald area lots of smaller resorts though plenty of skiing. Damüls is supposed to be the snowiest village in Austria. You can also easily fit in a few days in the Arlberg but avoid the flesh pots & prices of St Anton. Easy drive from Munich via the A96

Go to Garmisch for starters, it's really great for a couple of days. Then up the Zugspitze, and round the corner to Lermoos (small but good). There are a couple of other small areas for a day round Lermoos. 
We stayed at the Hotel Hilleprandt in Garmisch, really friendly and comfy. There are some very decent restaurants in town.

We really enjoyed the zugspitze arena -Ehrwald was our base.
We also enjoyed using the lungo ticket in the lungau area of Salzburg. Our base was Mauterndorf.
Both resort towns were relaxed and quiet in late January. Ehrwald was busy at weekends. We tend to self cater.

Thanks for posting the You Tube clip @luigi. I’ve not heard of the Red Bull White Rush at Krippenstein…insane!
For the OP, the 11km run from top to valley station is quite stunning, as it variously offers some extraordinary views, especially of the Hallstattersee and Hallstatt. In reasonable snow conditions, it’s a great piste (red).
For the general areas of Dachstein West, Dachstein Krippenstein and Loser, I’d add in Feuerkogel (Ebensee) and Tauplitz (Bad Mitterndorf). The former is a small resort and ideal for a day (again, some classic Salzkammergut views). The latter is ideal for a couple of days of skiing or Langlauf, snow shoe walking, touring or lift accessed off-piste skiing.

@snowyowl, have you been to some of the smaller Ski Amade areas? Fageralm, Filzmoos, Eben etc…

Dachstein West is an excellent area.
Landhaus Koller is a beautiful 1850's built Villa, family run with Gottried Koller an exceptional chef if use fancy a something a little more upmarket.

You can see put over the nursery slope from the sauna. This is particularly lovely after dark when you can watch the piste bashers at work.
Rauris is small and easily covered in a day. But has some breath-taking views and some lovely runs. Combined with the spa and it only being 20 minutes from Zell Am See, it would make a great stop for a spa plus ski. Highly recommend the masseuse they use, too. Book at the main reception.

A friend of mine spent some time at the Katschberg area last year and said it was good. I think he stayed in St Margarthen.

Thanks all.
We started in Garmisch and Zugspitze.
Moved on to St Gallenkirch (for old time's sake) unfortunately weather was bad..skied St G and Gaschurn anyway. Above Schruns we had a great time. Moved to stay in Bludenz, lovely hotel but an odd sort of place. Skied Brand and Burserberg in the sun. Took Saturday off as 40 min queues for resort and we wanted to go to Lindau. Have just arrived at Kuhtai and it looks as bleak as Scotland but we will be able to ski right down as it's much higher...2 days here then heading to Munich for a few pints/litres in the Hofbrauhaus...!

@snowyowl, Give the Hofbräuhaus a miss, there are much better places. Nearby there is the Schneiderbräuhaus on Tal and the Tegernseer place just opposite. For Augustiner try the "brewery tap" https://www.braeustuben.de/ , pretty much cheapest beer & food in town, built into the brewery not far from the Oktoberfest site, easy walk from Hackerbrücker S bahn. On the opposite side of the railway, even closer to S bahn, is the Augustinerkeller, huge beer garden in summer and the best beer in the world (tm  ) - Augustiner Edelstoff vom Holzfass.

@snowyowl, He will get far better beer if he avoids the Hofbräuhaus, almost entirely the preserve of Asian & US tourists these days, most locals avoid the place like the plague.
