Hi everyone,
I'm looking at taking a group of South African teenagers skiing but it needs to be the second or third week of December so teachers can go too.
Where would be the best places to go?
We'd ideally be looking for catered chalets with good slopes for people to learn and guaranteed skiing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are very few affordable British-run catered chalets outside of France (there are some Dutch-run ones in Austria, including St Anton). For pretty certain snow, the most obvious options in France would be Tignes / Val d'Isere or Val Thorens

What numbers total (and what ages of teens)?

Well, if they’re teenagers, one solution might be some of the youth-oriented operations like Les Elfes in Switzerland.
In our small resort in the 4 Valleys they’ve taken over one of the hotels and operate winter and summer camps, as you can see in the link above. No idea about cost.
December means going high if you want to maximise good snow probability. I’m thinking about your residence being at least 1500m and the ski area above that, with a substantial portion around the 2000m mark. The 4 Valleys in Switzerland matches that profile (Verbier being the hub with satellites of La Tzoumaz, Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Bruson), accessible by public transport from Geneva.

By no means all resorts will be fully open the second week of December, even if the snow is good. Some only open Christmas week. For pretty much guaranteed skiing Ischgl, it opens the last weekend in November. Dont believe there are any chalets mostly half board hotels.

Livigno opens week 1 of Dec. It won't be catered chalets, but half board hotels will be reasonably priced, and its Italy so everything else is good value too.

Yes, it’s a good point about the pre-Christmas period in terms of the limited scope of opening.
We usually go out to our apartment in the 4 Vallées early December, to get it ready for the rental season. We’d usually expect to ski one year in three. Yes, the slopes will be partially open, but not to the extent we can be bothered to go up, especially if the weather isn’t good. So about half the lifts and pistes will be open.
That’s why we always go for our main trip sometime after the New Year week and before the Half Term week - early January through to late February.

Cervinia(+Zermatt) is always a good option for December, probably need to be a hotel tho if that was doable

There are plenty of resorts open around the 2nd week in Dec , especially in the high French resorts . It’s normally Uni week before the Xmas week . Tignes , Val T , Alp d’heux and Duex Alps , they all cater for Uni week that week. Contact the tourist offices or a uni tour operation . You should be able to pick up not only cheap accommodation but also discounts of lift passes and ski hire .

Unfortunately most snowsure places will be high and relatively expensive
You could try Solden - it's reasonably high and has glaciers just in case. Or Mayrhofen is a low resort with relatively high skiing. These two should be a touch cheaper than the obvious early opening (mid Nov?) Austrian resorts of Ischgl and Obergurgl (the latter is a short free bus ride from Solden).

Thanks for the replies everyone. They would be students who have just finished their matric year. So most should be 18. It's my mother in law's idea as she works a lot with the schools.
Think the catered chalet was more because it makes life so much easier but I don't see why a hotel wouldn't be viable. I'll check out what you've all posted.

@ Kenzie. They're 18ish. Could get quite a few to go. Minimum 15 but could be up to 45.

@WittyUsername, those may be pretty large numbers for most hotels let alone chalets. You may be best contacting one of the specialised travel agencies handling school and university trips, making sure you focus on resorts at 1600m+ with skiing going to 2000m+.
On the other hand our very own @admin seems to have contacts in various locations....
