Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Beanies/Hats with build in protection.

I have heard about these but never seen them, anyone got any links, etc.

From what I've heard they are beanies/hats with a material that acts like a helmet but obviously not as hard.

I'm quite tempted as I hate wearing my helmet.

I don't see the point in them. If you're likely to hit your head you should wear a helmet.

buckers, no point going skiing if you are uncomfortable.
Your helmet should not be unpleasant - I love mine
1. Change your helmet - give yourself up to a whole morning to choose the right one, just as you would with a boot
2. If you really can't tolerate the helmet, I suppose any sort of padding must be better than none

as Jonpim, said get another helmet - I tried loads of different ones and some caused absolute pain, I ended up with a R.E.D Trace and forget I have it on.

buckers, They're called rib-caps. http://www.ribcap.ch/cms/pages/ I've heard good things about them but am a hard helmet bloke myself. I don't know what shops sell them but the distributor is http://www.tradefusion.co.uk/.

Good advice from Jonpim. Some people have endless trouble with boots, some just have fairly regular feet and have few problems - the right shell size and shape and they're away with no modifications. Same as helmets I reckon. I could only find one helmet to fit me well and comfortably and I really don't notice it on me now.

It doesn't look as though those rigid beanies have a protective standard assigned to them like helmets are required to have, does it? Though as has been said, its probably better than no protection, though I can't say persoanlly that I'm overboard about the styling or look of them.

Rather spend 20 euros more on a helmet ffs...

I saw the 3DO (??) beanies, the ones filled with the 'intelligent' putty stuff, on the Gadget Show and they look cool but I think I'd rather opt for a helmet... not that there's much to damage inside my empty head!! Very Happy

Still, better safe than sorry...

there is a RED one listed on the Ellis Brigham website. I might have a look. I can't get on with helmets (there really isn't one that fits my head) and this might be a nice compromise. Presumably it will fit in a pack better than a helmet too
