Can someone who's used a TomTom for some time give me any advice about the "map sharing" facility. It strikes me as a bit dodgy to sign up to download any old "map amendment" made by other users. People could put in all sorts of rubbish just for fun, couldn't they? |
You have an option to only accept changes that have been approved by Tom Tom..

I've found the tunnel to be well signposted. The signs even have nice pictures, for people who don't speak English. |

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I checked the tom tom site an it says in an FAQ:
Q: Which POIs are most often added?
A: Top 2 are Krispy Kreme and The Home Depot.
Don't you love the american way...

I currently have the 720 model the windscreen mount is rubbish compared to the 510 it replaced |
If anyone else is suffering with their Tom Tom mounts (or phone or anything else) then I'd recommend the Brodit brackets - http://www.brodit.com/?lang=E they really are rock solid, and are used by various coppers. After 15 years in mobiles, I've never seen a mounting solution that comes close other than the manufacturers single model fully fitted car kit which is chuffing expensive.
Got my brodit tomtom bracket from www.mountonus.com
I'm not pimping (promise) I'm just a very happy customer...

I use Brodit brackets for my PDA and they're very good, however I have not had any problems with the new "small" style TomTom mount that came with my 930

Maps have been taking people through some of the roughest parts of the world for years, can't see much difference really.

Sat Nav's have revolutionised the way we drive, 10 years ago I used to have a box of A-Z's in the car, now I don't even have an atlas, but they are no substitute for common sense
|
That's what my mate told me last year, simple drive, Blackpool to Bristol, no problem - you won't need to do any navigating. M6/M5 jct snarled up, swiftly pressed a few buttons, it rerouted us thru somewhere in Brummieland & onto the M5 - v impressive. Then the matrix signs said M50 shut - no probs - we don't need that road, next matrix sign said M5 shut for abt 4 jcts. Time to switch on the radio! Oops, every road is shut. Stopped to buy a map & spent all night ticking off roads that were shut & rerouting further & further off course. Sat nav now sitting unloved in corner of car. Arrived 2am. Another of our party just doing Birmingham to Bristol arrived at 6am, he should have been 2 hours ahead of us but because he was without a map

MTBs, motorbikes, ATVs, cars, boats, aircraft. Suction mounts, bolt ons, U clamps. GPS, PDAs, laptops, you name it, with specific cradles for the product being carried.
In flying, they are the tool of choice and the CAA approved GPS install in my plane lists the Ram Mount parts that must be used. That said, the bracket that came with my Garmin does a perfectly good job.
