Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

benpudney, I don't do it every day (lack of time as much as anything), especially if I don't think much has changed (from a quick glance). The only addition I have to make is that it's looking windy. I completely forgot to do the updates to compare what was forecast with what's happened - but the expected warm air seems to have arrived (only looking at Chambery & Geneva for today though). I may get time to have a look at next week on Friday - if I'm not distracted by the snow in Blighty that day. snowHead

Latest Météo Chance predictions are snow to 1600 meters on Thursday afternoon with snow continuing to Monday morning and the snow level dropping to 200 meters over the weekend. Happy transfer day! Around 70-80cm are expected in the pre-Alps. Coolio. I'm glad we've got plenty of wood for the central heating still.

PS the weather has certainly made a turn for the worse here in leeds, crazy lightening!!

something I found somewhere:

Hello a tous...

5 a 20cm ailleurs.

You are obviously not one of the tourists who spent 48 hours stuck on a bus this winter. Saturday shouldn't be that bad although beware the French driver without snow tires.

davidof, exciting tho int it....hope there isnt too much snow and everywhere shuts due to the avalance risk wink

Think we will definitely be heading up later in the day on saturday, try to avoid the massses and hopefully any snow on the roads will have been sorted out...hopefully, dont fancy losing 48 hours sitting in the car!!

Where are you heading? Last Saturday was fairly busy but this weekend should be calm. If it does snow Grenoble is chaos. Ttook me 2 hours to cross at the start of March and the bypass (Rocade) was a mess of crashed cars. It is not you it is the other drivers. Most people in Grenoble have neither chains nor snow tyres. You may be advised to stop at Espace Comboire on the Rocade on the way to les 2 Alpes / Alpe d'Huez. The only problem with the afternoon in France is that a good percentage of drivers are drunk having downed half a bottle of pinarde at lunch, this does little for their ability to drive down a road without veering from side to side or lane to lane.... or maybe they just drive that way without drinking?

I doubt the snow will be as bad as forecast although there was heavy snow at low altitude even in May last year.

I think the pre-alps are the hils to the west and north - above places like Evian. But is just a guess.

Looks like there could be snow into the middle of next week, but it could warm up again mid-week. More precip expected, but the warmer air is looking to move back in so the FL could raise a bit. Looking at late Tues/Wed at the moment. Still too early fvor sure and I'll have another look tomorrow.

Vendredi 8 Avril 2005 80%:

Iso O vers 700m.
Tn en plaine: 0-3° a 1000m: (-4)-(-2)°

dio5 someone on the French forum skipass.com asked the same question about where the "prealpes" are, and the reply was as follows:

Here in the Beaufortain it is still raining, and around 2 degrees. It is promised to cool down and start snowing later in the night. It better had, because there's nothing but grass and mud from where I'm looking. Have a great holiday.

tomski01, I've noticed in the past week or so that the 9pm webcam pics are pretty poor quality but it seems a little bit extra poor tonight so hopefully some of that is down to snow - I guess we will find out tomorrow!

Mrs Bungle has come down from her high but remains reasonably confident - as you say tomorrow is the big day for snow so fingers crossed - be looking in the morning hoping to see a fair bit of white.

tomski01, I'm sorry but all this "seems a little bit extra poor tonight" is simply not good enough.

Given that my husband finds it impossible to find any jumpers to ski in (as I am packing tonight) even when they are in full view at the front of a shelf (at eye level!! Shocked ) and followed that up with being unable to find the marmite at the FRONT of the kitchen cupboard, he's hardly qualified to tell if the snow has returned in the 9pm pic.

However, a woman's eye can easily see that if you look at the steps just left of centre at the bottom of the picture near the window with the red canopy (being fairly specific with the description for any male readers) there is clearly what looks like at least 2 cm of skiable powder on the 9pm pic that is not there on the 8pm one.
